Heartworm Testing
Heartworm is spread by mosquitoes. The worms live in the blood vessels between the heart and lungs, where they can block blood flow and cause lasting damage.
Early in the disease, a pet may look completely healthy. As it gets worse, you may notice coughing, difficulty breathing, tiredness, weight loss or a swollen belly. In severe cases, heartworm can cause heart failure, collapse and death.
Treatment can be long, difficult and expensive, especially once serious damage has been done. A simple blood test can help us find heartworm earlier, when there are more options to help.
We offer heartworm testing for Houston pets as part of our preventive care services. We can also help you choose year-round protection to reduce your pet’s risk.
